چکیده

This paper analyzes the use of ultrasonic echo amplitudes to evaluate the characteristics of the detected surfaces (such as distinguishing between walls and corners). The shape and surface characteristics of the environment, such as roughness or absorption coefficient, as well as the distance and the angle of incidence, have high influence on the amplitude of the echoes. As a consequence, the amplitude of the received echoes has received little attention from robotic researchers. Instead, time-of-flight (ToF) has been used as the main source of information of the environment. It is also well known that the shape of the echoes of a corner is the same as that of a wall [IEEE Trans. Pattern Anal. Mach. Intell. (PAMI), 12 (1990) 560]. Several authors have proposed special multi-transducer configurations to avoid this problem. This paper studies the amplitude of received echoes and presents a simple model to predict the shape and amplitude of echoes received from different materials in environments c w p c g ©

Using the Amplitude of Ultrasonic Echoes to Classify Detected Objects in a Scene

This paper presents a study about the amplitude of ultrasonic echoes and a simple model is proposed to predict the shape and amplitude of echoes received from different materials in environments composed of walls and corners. Using this model is possible to distinguish between walls and corners, in a single circular scan of a single ultrasonic transducer pair. The parameters of the model have b...

طراحی و ساخت روبشگر فراصوتی جهت تهیه تصاویر روبش B (B-Scan) از قطعات صنعتی

The results of ultrasonic tests are usually displayed as A-scan signals. In an A-scan signal, reflections of ultrasonic wave form different reflectors are shown as sharp echoes on a time by amplitude display. Interpretation of these echoes can sometimes be quite difficult and usually requires knowledgeable and experienced specialists. There exist other methods of displaying the ultrasonic test...

Application of Model-Based Estimation to Time-Delay Estimation of Ultrasonic Testing Signals

Time-Delay-Estimation (TDE) has been a topic of interest in many applications in the past few decades. The emphasis of this work is on the application of model-based estimation (MBE) for TDE of ultrasonic signals used in ultrasonic thickness gaging. Ultrasonic thickness gaging is based on precise measurement of the time difference between successive echoes which reflect back from the back wall ...

Orthogonal Signal Decomposition Coupled with Bayes and Puzzy Discriminant Classifiers for Ultrasonic Flaw Detection

The performance of an ultrasonic flaw detection system is valued by its success in differentiating flaw echoes from those scattered by microstructures (e.g. grain scattering or clutter). In order to successfully detect and classify the target echoes from background noise, an effective feature extracting method and a robust decision process are required. In this study, we present a comparative e...

Optimization of Biodiesel Production from Prunus Scoparia using Artificial Bee Colony Algorithm

Renewable energy sources are developed worldwide, owing to high oil prices and in order to limit greenhouse gas emissions. The objective of this research was to study the feasibility of biodiesel production from mountain almond (Prunus Scoparia) oil using ultrasonic system and optimization of the process using Artificial Bees Colony (ABC) Algorithm. The results showed that by increasing the mol...
